Making the All-State Band this year were Rochelle Lopez (Junior) on baritone for the third year in a row, Corbin Kems (senior) on trumpet for the second year in a row, Sophia Pastorino (Junior) on trombone making it for the second year in a row, Mara Feirer (Sophomore) on horn making it for the first time, and Ethan Suddarth (Freshman) on horn making it for the first time.
Making the All-State Chorus this year were
soprano Brooklyn Price (Senior) making it for the second year in a row, tenor Nick McCutchan (Senior) making it for the second year in a row, and tenor Ethan Villa (sophomore) making it for the first time.
Winterset was very successful this year in the All-State Audition process. On top of the eight students receiving honors to participate in the festival, WHS holds four alternate spots. Alternates are Brad LaGrange (Junior) on tenor saxophone, Stetson Smith (Senior) on horn, Mackenzie Flatt (Junior) on percussion, and Gracie Daniels (Senior) as a soprano vocalist.
Students from WHS that were recalled (an honor in itself) after their initial audition were Trey Patterson on percussion, Garrett Livingston as a tenor, Shannah Pastory as an alto, and Morgan Wickman as a soprano.
This year’s All-State Festival will celebrate its 72nd anniversary. The band will consist of 276 member and the choir will consist of 600 members. Approximately 17% of students that audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles. Participants will rehearse in Ames on Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17. Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast. Please check the IPTV website (www.iptv.org) for the exact dates and times.
