Winterset sent 5 wrestlers to the State Tournament last week and came home with big tournament experience and one medal. Freshman Bryce Hatten at 106 lost his opening match, but battled back to get 2 wins before dropping a couple close matches and placed 8th. Freshman Jack West at 120 lost his opening match to the eventual state champion and then dropped his wrestleback to go 0-2 for the tournament. Junior Blake Ryerson also lost his opening match to the eventual state champion and then dropped his wrestleback match to the eventual 8th place finisher. Senior Justin Smith won his opening bout 6-2, and then fell in the quarterfinals to Mitchel Swank from Creston the eventual 5th place finisher. In Justin's wrestlebak he lost a heartbreaking 7-4 decision to the eventual 6th place finisher. Freshman 285 pounder Bradley Tolley dropped his opening bout to fellow RRC competitor Colin Anderson from Ballard. He then dropped his wrestleback to junior Blake Bradley from Dubuque Wahlert. The Huskies finished in a tie for 51st place with 7 points. Congratulations to the wrestlers on a great season. The future looks bright for Husky Wrestling!
