The Varsity Boys Basketball team opened up the season in Atlantic on Thursday, November 28th to face an Atlantic team who returned 4 starters from a state tournament trip last season. The Trojans beat the Huskies on opening night last season and in the first round of district play last February.
Thursday night was a different story however, as the Huskies came out victorious 59-46. Winterset was led offensively by sophomore guard, Easton Darling. Darling scored 20 points on 8-15 shooting, including 4-5 from behind the arc. Senior Nick Mortoza grabbed 10 rebounds and junior Casey Kleemeier had a team high 4 assists.
Defensively is where the Huskies must improve the most from last season, as they gave up nearly 70 points per game. Winterset held Atlantic to just 46 points and the Trojans only shot 37.5% from the floor.
The Huskies have their home and conference opener on Friday night against defending Raccoon River Conference Champions, Boone.
